I saw a bit of a tin foily video that theorized that he did no work on winds of winter during the entire run of game of thrones. The idea is when the last book came out, they had to cut a lot from it, something like 200 pages and he said had another 200 rough pages, this is about a quarter of winds he already had done when they published the
Bruh I wan in my first year of Uni when the book came out. Now I'm married with a 4 y/o. That's how long it's been. I've pretty much lost hope that I'll ever read winds of winter. At this point I'm not even sure I want to.

But I’ll worry about that one thing at a time – that’s too far ahead.”.
George R. R. Martin is a 70-year-old man who has taken 7 years to write Winds of Winter and he isn't finished. He has another book to write after that. What if he writes slower at the age of 75 than he did at the age of 65? What if he wants to write something else, which he's totally entitled to do?
I think we will eventually get Winds of Winter, though I become more skeptical of that every year. No way we are getting A Dream of Spring though. Let's say theoretically we get Winds of Winter two years from now. Even if George picked up the pace and took only 10 years to write A Dream of Spring assuming no breaks that is still a minimum of 12

Fans of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series have been waiting well over a decade for the author to publish the sixth installment, The Winds of Winter. It would take a bold person
PRE-ORDER The Winds of Winter by George R.R. Martin!! Amazon.com. I saw this, and yelped in excitement. Then saw that it was ASOIAFCIRCLEJERK. Ass. When I thought of this I couldn't believe how simple it was. Yet, somehow it is the jerkiest of all. I can't imagine the anguish if this showed up in your browsing.
George doesn't write updates on TWOW unless he has something to say, so if he's like "I can finish a POV in total this week. Maybe 2" that's awesome news. As jaded as I am, as soon as he says "I am finished", i will be rereading the series, Dunk n Egg, Fire and Blood and the World of Ice and Fire before that mfer is even mass produced.
George R.R. Martin takes a lot of heat for the delay of "The Winds of Winter," the planned next book in the "Game of Thrones" series, but honestly I totally get why it would take him more time to finish.
